Sailing
What is keeping you from turning your dreams into goals?  We all need something to keep us getting up in the morning with a spring in our step and real joy in our soul.  That doesn't mean I don't have good days and bad days but I know beyond a shadow of doubt that the God who created the universe loves me and wants good things for me.  If only I could remember that when things aren't going the way "I" think they should.

Sailing is one of my dreams that I turned into a goal.  WOW . . . this is fun!

Waters I've Sailed

I'm a little hazy on the exact date but I believe it was May or June in 2007 when I launched the 15 foot McGregor Venture Catamaran onto Big Lake for the first time.  A good friend (and sailor) recommended the lake for my first trip out and he was right.  What a beautiful setting.  It's not a very big lake and there were some water skiers and Jet skiis but they seemed like they were being kind enough to give a sailor a wide birth on the lake.

Sounds really fun and I noticed a lot of sail boats moored on the lake as I drove to my destination.

On June 20th and 21st (2008) we camped and sailed at Lake Billy Chinook near Culver, Oregon.  The weather was warm and I thought the camp ground and day use was great.  The sailing however . . .

Not exactly what I had in mind but the camp sites at Big Cultus were full and we had planned to camp and sail for a couple days.  I would not recommend this lake if you want to sail.  At least during the time we were there the wind was spradic at best.

On June 15th, 2008 (Father's Day) I took the family and invited some freinds to go to Prineville Reservoir in the afternoon.  What a beautiful Day.  Must have been at least 75 degrees out and the kids had a great time playing in the water.  As far as sailing goes . . .

A number of years ago a friend told me about a sailing trip they took in the Carribean during Christmas.  Something about that conversation got me interested in exploring sailing in my own life.  I had no idea but I started reading about it and even subscribed to a sailing magazine.

I've had the boat out 4 times this year (2008) so far and it been mostly a bust as far as the wind was concerned.  So when is the best time to sail?  What kind of weather conditions create the most consistent type of wind patterns for lake sailing?  I'll be discussing that here and would appreciate the comments of any more experienced sailors.
