Dan Miller has some great stuff to share in his newsletter. This is one that was particulary challening to me so I'm reprinting here. Dan, I would like to hear more of your thoughts on failure. Since most of us who are trying to live a life with "No More Mondays" are probably going to fail several times, what does a "successful failure" look like? How much should we risk in pursuit of our dreams? As you often say, we must not be paralyzed by our fear of failure but I doubt you would suggest that we risk our marriages, health, homes, etc. while seeking to reach our goals. What do you think is the right balance in this area? Thanks, Eric Great question Eric. And I believe there really are . . .

Have you ever wondered why life sucks and you just can't seem to get ahead. Have you ever said to yourself "I deserve better than this" or "I'm worth it." Or maybe it goes something like this: "If God really is a god of love why does he let bad things happen." How many times have you heard "I try and I try but I just can't seem to get a head". What we all really want is a cosmic sugar daddy. |

Is it really like a restaurant? |

Ever have a favorite restaurant you return to often? You might even know the name of your favorite waitress. The food's pretty good, the atmosphere's not too bad and it's generally a comfortable place to eat. You know you've been going there a lot if your waitress knows your name. Kind of reminds me of going to church. The minister is the cook; the waitress is the usher. If I like what the cook makes and how the waitress serves me I come back and I may even throw some loose change into the offering plate as T.I.P.S. (To Insure Prompt Service.) Best of all when I decide I don't like the food or the waitress doesn't serve me the way I like I just head on down the street to one of the other perfectly acceptable establishments where I can satisfy me desires. Should that be what church is like? Why do I even bother? It seems like a church should be more than a restaurant. Have I missed the point? Church isn't meant to be like a restaurant is it? It's suppose to be like . . . . |

Work I can love? That seems like a loaded question. On the more practicle side, how about work that will be steady; Work that will pay the bills; Work that will satifisfy me. So which question is more important and is it possible to have both?

Your life is going somewhere whether you have a strategy or not. So get one and end up somewhere you want to be. As someone I know is fond of saying, opinions are like belly buttons, everyone's got one. I certainly don't claim to know all the answers but I know the One who does. |
