Rois Cannon I love developing and implementing Open Source Information Technologies. Most recently I've been Integrating Open Source technologies with legacy systems in the accounting and payroll industries. My goal is to help organizations effectively plan and implement technology systems that will enhance their current business model and provide exciting new opportunities for the future of their business.
My ExperiencesAfter graduating from High school in 1985 I spent the next 4 years going to college and managing a couple different restaurants. In 1989 I got my real estate license and worked for a commercial and residential real estate company in Salem, Oregon. From 1990 to 1994 I did accounting work for a residential contractor in Northwestern Washington. While I was there I took advantage of the opportunity to learn how to build houses from the ground up. During this time I did some accounting consulting for various other companies in the building and manufacturing industries.
From 1994-1995 I ran my own construction company specializing in log homes and had a painting and chinking company that did work for my construction company as well as other contractors in the western states. From 1996 to the present I've been doing work for several Central Oregon payroll and staffing companies managing their technology platforms and internal staffing issues. I developed an Intranet/Internet web application (based on LAMP: Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) to fill in the operational gaps and interface with their aging Thoroughbred Basic payroll software. I take care of their upper level payroll and accounting issues and I setup and maintain their internal application servers.
My interests My most favorite thing to do is hang out with my wife and kids. Bicycling, cross country skiing, camping, reading or doing home work. Nothing is more important. That's also why I coach my son's Park & Rec soccer team. After that, I love mountain biking. From May to September I have a standing Tuesday night appointment to ride the trails at Phil's Trailhead with old friends and new. Occasionally we'll make it a long weekend camping and biking someplace cool. The last couple years it been the North Umqua River trail. My other recent passion has become sailing. Through an act of sheer providence I met a man who gave me a 1978 15 foot McGregor Catamaran. I had the best time learning how to sail and sharing it with my family and friends.
